Optimum
Nutrition
Nutrition
is one of the most important, and overlooked, component of any
expedition or trek. Pre-trip training puts additional stress
on a mountain athlete's body. On the expedition or trek,
factors such as cold weather, strenuous activity, and high altitude
combine to further stress the climber or trekker. Many individuals,
and even entire expeditions, have failed to reach their goals
because optimum nutrition was overlooked in the planning phase
of their trip. We at VisionQuest Journeys have contracted
the professional team at Global Sports Dietitians to examine the
nutritional needs of our expedition climbers and trekkers.
Global Sports Dietitians is a team
of individuals specialized in sports dietetics and exercise physiology
who are from three continents of the world: Europe, Australia,
and North America. Each team member has a background as a former
elite athlete and has worked with a diversity of sports in research,
education, and performance enhancement. The team has knowledge
on cultural differences, international foods and languages, and
seeks to strengthen its approach by the integration of an international
referral network. The team believes in collaboration, thereby
offering a broader perspective for the application of nutrition
to sports and exercise in active individuals living in and traveling
to a variety of countries. The team’s approach is based
on current scientific facts, focused on whole foods whenever possible,
and centered on the individual.
